○ 05: Let me come home.

[AUDIO: Eddie's a little more quick and to the point this time, efficient without being impatient.]

I'm looking to find out who's presently working in the laboratory with some kind of project. Inmates and wardens both, though I understand that inmates need to be supervised by wardens. I'm not trying to cheat any rules. I want to get a feel for what everyone is studying in order to begin research on something else entirely, with the permission of my warden. He's been encouraging me to ask questions about the things I care about.

[Private to George]
Are you free this week for that date with Wichita?

[Private to Eddie Russet]
Would you have any interest in supervising me for a project in the lab starting at only one day per week with George's approval?

[Private to Martha]
I'm interested in working in the infirmary. George told me that he talked with you already about my getting started. I have no experience beyond some basic first aid and reading up on anatomy and some EMT materials, but I learn fast and I can work whatever hours you need.

...What project, and... well, I don't mean to put myself down, but why me?

I don't exactly have a very scientific history.

I haven't decided yet. If you're agreeing to supervise me, I figured we could decide the project together. I wanted to give you a say in what you'll be helping me to work on over the next few weeks or months.

I'm asking you because I don't need a scientific history. Whatever we decide, I can study and learn about that. I need someone with a different perspective than a life like mine can offer. You're the man I get along with the best that can offer that kind of unique perspective. And, quite frankly, because this is about getting results, I'd rather not have a woman. It's nothing against their capabilities. I just know I'd get distracted.

Oh... well, alright. As long as I can tell my inmate about it if I think he might be interested too. Might do him some good.

I'm not sure it's their fault you'd get distracted. But okay, I think I can help you. I might have to check things with some of the other wardens, though, but it sounds like a good idea.

..Victor, right? Yeah, he seems like a pretty good guy.

I know it's not their fault, but you should be complimenting me for recognizing the behavior and trying to prevent it. [Joking. Mostly.]

I still need to talk to George. Give me some time before you talk to the other wardens? I don't want him to think I'm trying to go above his head or around his back or anything. He's a good guy and he's trying to help me and I don't want to be the one to screw him.

He... needs some practice with real science.

No, of course not. I more meant as we went along than right now, to be honest.

What kind of thing are you interested in researching?

Sure. We can definitely figure out something that he might like to participate in to learn more about modern science -- modern being from my time. I haven't been in the lab yet to know what kind of resources are available.

I'll keep that in mind.

Patterns, mainly. Where people are from. When. Gender, powers, ages. I'd like to create a demographic to start with. If we can begin to predict what kind of people are most likely to end up here, then we can work on understanding what it is that the Admiral is looking for and possibly create a correlation between the floods' affects and certain groups or something. I haven't really thought about it too much, but I know most of what is being studied is either advanced science or projects without tangible results and I was never very good at either.

That's certainly an interesting subject. I imagine everyone might hate me if we put together another questionnaire, but it could prove productive and interesting.

Are people not liking that questionnaire of yours about the comas?

I get the impression they might be a bit frustrated with it. Perhaps.

Then maybe I can handle this one. It could help to spread out their annoyance.

This is all laboring under the assumption that George approves, of course. I still haven't talked to him. I need to do that.

Well, yes, of course. Ask him anything you need to. I'll back it up.

Thanks a lot.
